Melbourne Youth Orchestra turns 50!

Celebrations at the MRC

The Melbourne Youth Orchestras are set to help young performers with a new fund.

Melbourne Youth Orchestra begins its 50th year celebrations with a thrilling program of drama, revolution and romance, directed by Chief Conductor Steven Hillinger.

The program opens with Wagner’s exuberant Prelude to Die Meistersinger, followed by eminent Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin’s turbulent Mythic. Shostakovich’s revolutionary suite The Gadfly closes the program. Composed as the score to the 1955 movie of the same name, The Gadfly includes the iconic Romance, instantly recognisable as the theme to the TV miniseries Reilly: Ace of Spies.

Melbourne Youth Orchestras has brought Victoria’s finest young musicians together since 1967.
