Powerful Wom*n

Composed by Rachel Bruerville for Cassandra Humble

Powerful Wom*n is a new song cycle in three movements, written by Adelaide composer Rachel Bruerville for soprano Cassandra Humble.

Rachel drew from text by Mary Eliza Fullerton, Lesbia Harford, and Elinor Morton Wylie for her work, which will be performed with piano.

From the composer…

Cassandra and I have been singing together in choirs for over five years, and we are both passionate about feminism. I particularly am interested in uncovering female voices who have been hidden by the dominant, Western telling of history. That was our starting point for putting together this cycle using text by late 19th/early 20th Century women writers. Cassandra is a brilliant soprano who is currently working as a Young Artist with the State Opera of South Australia, and writing specifically for her voice has been a great pleasure.
