“An unforgettable concert.” That’s how Markus Karas, organist at Bonn Cathedral, described By the Waters of Babylon by the Australian Chamber Choir. The program was performed 14 times across Europe last July. Artistic Director Douglas Lawrence selected works that explore the text of Psalm 137: the Israelites mourn the loss of their homeland and their oppression by the Babylonians. Settings of this Psalm by Bach and Palestrina are sung alongside Bach Motets, other Renaissance works and two new Australian pieces. Tom Henry’s Uncertain Journeys draws on the words of people seeking asylum in Australia.

The program is presented at:

Church of the Resurrection, MACEDON: 3pm 19 August

St Mary and the Angels, GEELONG: 3pm 20 August

St Jude’s, BOWRAL: 7.30pm 26 August
