Lunchtime series

CONTENT COURTESY SYDNEY BACH SOCIETY

Would you like some Bach with your lunch?

The Sydney Bach Society will host a series of lunchtime concerts in the months to follow, giving locals the chance to experience music of this great composer performed by leading musicians.

The concerts, presented with Christ Church St Laurence, will feature solo and chamber recitals of Bach’s works along with those of his contemporaries. The society also runs a New Collegium – biannual recitals inspired by the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig, 17th Century; and Salon Recitals in private and intimate spaces.

So what’s for lunch?

All events in the following series start at 12pm in Christ Church St Laurence.

CONCERT 1
April 12: Bach & the Guitar
Featuring the Brazilian classical guitarist Josinaldo Costa in a monumental solo program of J.S. Bach’s Suite for Lute in C Minor (BWV 1005) and Sonata for Violin in C Major (BW V997).

CONCERT 2
May 10: Thorough Bass
Starring Pippa Macmillan (Professor of Baroque Double Bass at the Royal College of Music and Guest Principal of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra) and Anthony Albrecht (cello), this concert will feature music voiced for the lower end of the string spectrum.

CONCERT 3
June 7: The Art of the Cello
Featuring Chris Pidcock (cello) and James Doig (chamber organ) from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for three sumptuous all-Bach works including the beloved Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major (BWV 1007).
