It’s a bittersweet year for the annual 3MBS Marathon.

We’ll start with the sweet: 2022 marks its 10 year anniversary!

For the past decade, this Melbourne institution has brought together some of the brightest talent in our performing arts industry. Artistic director Chris Howlett says the marathon is “a celebration of the power of the Melbourne music community and 3MBS volunteers, staff and board and one that artists and audience look forward to every year”.

That’s where the bitter is mixed with the sweet: Chris is bidding farewell.

You’ll still find him on the scene as co-director of the Australian Digital Concert Hall, but when it comes to the 3MBS Marathon, it’s time to say goodbye. And he’s going out with a bang worthy of the 1812 Overture.

This year, Chris has curated a Tchaikovsky Marathon featuring more than 150 Melbourne musicians. They’ll perform across five main concerts in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, and a suite of chamber recitals in the Primrose Potter Salon. If you can’t make it to the venues, you can watch digitally on ADCH.

You can explore the finer details of this 19 February affair on the 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne website. In the meantime, you might like to join us in a reflection of the 3MBS Marathon throughout the decade. We’ve teamed up with 3MBS to bring you some of the memorable moments in our gallery below.
