In 2016, two Australian composers launched an ambitious crowdfunding campaign that would unite emerging arts practitioners across the country for a special collaboration.

After successfully raising their funds with the support of listeners and musicians alike, Making Waves co-founders Lisa Cheney and Peggy Polias have this week launched the first taste of their podcast series Making Conversation.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with the ABC Classic FM New Waves podcast to share interviews and stories with four amazing Australian composers!” the pair says.

“These recordings are a taste of our upcoming Making Conversation: Australian Composers’ Podcast series and we’re so excited to celebrate the vibrancy of Australian new music with a larger audience.”

Under the direction of Lisa and Peggy, a team of young music journalists have spent the past few months interviewing Australia’s leading living composers. Learn about what it means to journey into this career in today’s musical landscape, the personal stories behind the new music, and listen to some of the most recent sounds on offer.

Listen to composers Cat Hope, Joseph Twist, Timothy Tate, and Julian Day in Making Waves – Beginnings on ABC Classic FM.
